Bears Softball Modified League Rules
MODIFIED PITCH: Pitchers must start from the rubber and have a distinct pause before
began their motion. On the backswing, pitchers may take the ball backwards and outward
within reason while maintaining contact with the rubber. Pitchers must deliver the ball on
their first movement forward (no windmill) in an underhand motion. Also, the shoulders
should be square to the plate upon delivery.
BATS: Single-wall, single-piece, aluminum bats are the only bats allowed for play.
BUNTING: Bunting is allowed. There is no “slashing.” A player cannot square to bunt
then pull back and swing away. If a player does “slash” he may be ejected from play.
STEALING: Stealing is allowed. Baserunners must maintain contact with the base they
occupy until the pitcher releases the pitch towards home plate. There is no stealing home.
CLEATS: No metal cleats.
RUNNERS: There are no pinch runners.
UMPIRES: Teams are responsible for $20 per game for umpire fees.
BATTING ORDER: Teams may bat as many players as they want. All fielding players
must be in the lineup. If a player leaves the lineup and another player does not fill the
spot, the spot would be an automatic out the first time up. After the first time, the spot
will be erased from the batting order.
SLIDING: Sliding is encouraged but not mandatory. However, if you create contact you
may be called out at the umpire’s discretion.
STANDINGS: Teams will receive two points for a win and -1 point for a forfeit. Teams
will be seeded for playoffs based on points. All teams qualify for the postseason. All
playoff series will be best-of-three.
